Hi all,

I own a landrover defender 90 2005 (54 reg) td5 county station wagon.

I have just purchased a full set of front and back genuine land rover coil springs and a full set of front and back genuine landrover dampers.

I was wondering if anyone could suggest any useful tips or other parts that are worth replacing whilst im doing the job to make life easier and save me undoing the work in the near future.

Im under the impression that the rear springs will simply just compress in and out simple as that and the shocks just bolt on.

However the front is a little bit more fiddlier with the damper being within the spring.

In which case so far ive had a heads up of replacing the front turret rings with new as it is known for the studs to shear off.

Can anyone suggest anything else that is known to be a bugger? For either the front or rear jobs ive got to do.

Thanks everyone!

Chock wheels, jack body up so the axle lifts off the ground, hold shock still with a pair of stiltsons, undo bottom shock nut. Remove cover (not sure what it's called) from inner wing, cut off top nut with grinder. Compress shock from bottom and lift it out of it's hole, use a pry bar to pop spring out of position so it's diagonal, compress shock again upwards and pull out from the middle of the spring. No need to take turrets off! Once the shock is out you can use a pry bar again to get the spring full out while putting weight (your foot) on the axle while being careful not to stress the brake lines. Fitting is the reverse.

fyi undo both sides shocks first so the axle drops straight, if needed i put my bottle jack between the axle and chassis to spread it in order to put the springs in and out easier

Will a new set of lower spring seats be needed front and back? Just want to make sure I've got everything I could need so I can start and finish

shouldnt need too unless they are corroded badly. Whilst they are off give them a rub down and paint to make it look nice :)

I would consider buying new turrets as often they are corroded badly behind where you can see. For the sake of £15 for the pair you might as well get some.
