JB s-TD5

Hi all , great sight. After some advice. I would like to convert my 5 seat disco td5 2002 es model with coil rear suspension and ace to a 7 seat. I have seen seat kits for sale on Ebay and various breakers and am quite able to do the job. I have been told or read somewhere that if i do the conversion my insurance could be void in the event of an accident due to not having air suspension. Was there a td5 with 7 seats on coils ever produced or as an option or is it a no no. Cheers in advance for any info.:confused:
 
I'd talk to your insurance company first. Land Rover themselves did a spring conversion kit to get rid of air so I can't see the problem. A lot of gob****es will burst in here in a minute shouting about 'type approval' and all sorts of crap, but we don't live in Germany (yet) and our humble MOT tester and that said most insurance assessors don't know the ins and outs of every vehicle on the planet.
Mines a 7 seat, and I'm just converting to spring as it's a pain in the arse. There will now be loads of ooohs and aaars about that too. But if this air suspension makes such a f*kin huge difference, why is the rear loading and towing capacities the same then? And if your relying on the air suspension self leveing your trailer/caravan/tin tent, you've obviously loaded the bloody thing wrong...

Having just had my compressor go on TD5 7 seater quoted £288 plus VAT for new compressor or £90 plus VAT for coil pack. And a hour to fit either which includes turning modifying the SLS computer to be coils.
No brainer really but thought I would check insurance out after several threads befoe fitting coil springs
Churchill do not even list it as a modification just make a note on the policy that coil springs have been fitted instead of air suspension no cost, insurance validated.
Coils to be fitted tomorrow then.saving over £200 and no air bags or anything to go down in the future.
 
my compressor went out and left me sitting on the bump stops. For 28 dollars I instaled a t fitting to the existing air lines and away I went.
 
Check back a few pages on the forum here. There was a good thread about the exact same subject. I do know that the 7 seater Disco is whats known as type 7 approved on the air suspension. There was never a 7 seater made by land rover on coils, they were all on air. You do need to check your insurance as well, they may say it's ok now but I wouldn't like to put it to the test if there was a serious accident.
