Hi...here's the story in short. Kids mess with switches, leave interior lights on, battery is dead. GF tries to bump the car down a hill. First attempt she forgets to turn ignition on, second attempt (ignition on this time) it starts, puffs out some smoke but would barely tick over and had no power/acceleration, wont go more than 5mph, so she abandons its on the side of the road. Today I went with my other car and some jump leads, hooked it up, rev'd my car for a few minutes to get some juice into the dead one, then tried it, but and it wont even turn over, just clicks and I can feel a slight pulse coming from the engine bay with every click.

Any ideas?

Have you made sure every switch is off, especially heavy current draws such as rear window demist? Sounds like the battery voltage is dropping too far. Draining the battery dead may have caused a cell to fail - have you got a multimeter?

Give the battery a good bench charge overnoght and try again.
 
From my own experience, have a good look at the battery terminals, too. You need a perfect connection to crank a big diesel.
 
Dead battery. You would need the jump leads connected to a good one for at least 30 minutes to charge it enough.
Swap the batteries to get it running and charge or replace the dead one
If you like living dangerously refit the dead battery with the engine running but if you short the live terminal to earth while doing it bad stuff will happen.
The battery may even be so dead it was the cause of the car running badly last time, could be a cell shorting out and pulling the voltage down.

I once many years ago jump started a car with the battery disconnected because it refused to even try with the battery connected. When it was reconnected the car died so we had to tape up the +ve terminal and drove it to a battery supplier with no battery.
 
You might need to leave the jump leads connected for longer if it is that dead. I had to jump start my hippo a few days ago with a VW Scirocco and it took a while.
