Hi All
2005 td4 120K generally runs OK.
Been idling badly and fuel economy reduced recently so had had the injectors checked, two faulty so repaired. Refitted this evening and the bloody thing won't start. Turns over, lift pump running. Can't see any fuel leaks or anything out of the ordinary.
Fitted an EGR bypass while I was at it and also cleaned loads of oily / sooty gunk from the air box and inlet tracts. Cleaned the turbo boost pressure sensor as it looked like it was about to clog with the black gunk of doom.
The fuel high pressure sensor is connected fine. Checked all four injector electrical connectors, all fine.

Even connected a second battery just in case it wasn't quite spinning over fast enough but no change.

Wondered if the injectors hadn't seated properly and somehow compression wasn't high enough to kick over but I can't hear or feel any air escaping past the injectors while its being cracked.

Am at a complete loss and its snowing and I need to get to work tomorrow. Any ideas?
Plan is to take it all off and recheck everything tonight - in the dark on the drive - in the snow.
Cheers
Jim

Just re-check everything carefully. Did you disconnect the cam position sensor when you took the manifold off?

No and I've checked its connected properly which it is.
Just going to have my tea and then get out there.

If it was working and now isn't, then it has to be something that's been touched, assuming the new injectors are working. There's very little that will stop it starting, even if left unplugged. The cam sensor will stop it starting. The high pressure fuel regulator left unplugged will stop it starting. The rail sensor might stop it starting, but not always. The crank sensor will stop it starting. The engine will normally start if anything else is left off accidentally.

Oh and crack the unions at each injector and switch the ignition on. The LP pump will pump air out the rail, replacing it with fuel. Then tighten the unions and try it again.

Check the wires on the connectors haven't been caught. That cam sensor might look plugged in, wouldn't be the first time a broken wire stopped one starting.

OK after an hour in the snow I've pulled it all off apart from pulling the injectors. All sensors connected, disconnected and reconnected the injector plugs. There was mist in the tracts when I pulled the inlet manifold off so I think fuel is getting there, also pulled off one the leak back hoses and there was fuel and I then heard it dripping / draining / glugging as air got in. I can't see anything amiss.

Cranked it again and no luck at all.

All that's left I can think of is the battery is too weak to start it. Its still turning over but slower. It probably is 2 years old. Its brassic here in derbyshire so hopefully thats it.

I have connected a motorcycle charger to it and am going to try it again in the morning.

Thanks for your advice.
Cheers

Running well now. Idle rock steady as it should be.

Good idea about easy start but saying that its been -6/-7 overnight so even the new battery has needed a couple of hoes to get it started first thing.

Nothing but 4x4s out round us now due to the ice and snow so relieved its fixed.
