td4 2004

Hi there Everyone.

Hope all is well.

Took the TD4 for its annual service this week for its 84k/7 year service. Took it to Pheonix Services in Harlow.

First of all, the service I received was excellent and the guys there explained everything in detail. More so than the main dealers/stealers I used to take it to! I explained to them some of the concerns I had with the car and they went over it very thoroughly. I.e Flat spot at 1500 and smoke on first start of the day. Issues that no one in the passed could find, and at a cost of EGR and Air Flow Meter (which I was stupid to purchase as I did not listen to you guys).

They did a full diagnostic on the car and checked all readings of the vehicle. They advised the following:

1)Injector 3: inbalanced when cold but settled when warm
2)Injector 2: Ok when cold and inbalanced when warm.

They said to monitor and advise. They suggested maybe a cleaner. Not worth wasting money on injectors for now. What you think?

They did the oil change and filters and crank breather filter, and to my surprise, the oil filter was totally screwed! No flow of oil going through it. Either a poor quality filter or not changed for long time. So very surprised when I was charged £580 last year by Alymer. It was nice to go through all this with someone and actually were shown all the bits that were changed. They put 10-40 oil. With a screwed oil filter, would that give any syptoms?

I can honestly recommend these guys as they are so fanatical about Land Rovers and just want your car running as it should.

hi nick, sounds like good advice to me,got same sort of lack of power with my td4,using the millers power sport add at present,to see if it helps.i think engine oil should be5/30 fully synthetic, lots of views on this though good luck. tim.

Sorry cant help with the issues, but i have used Millers for the last 3 months, can honestly say it makes no difference to the way its drives or MPG, in fact the mpg has dropped using it (yes i do keep records, sad i know) so i am trying it now without millers to see what happens...

Ok I'm not doing this just to contradict False Elvis but,

Have used Millers diesel power for years and it's the best stuff I've ever come across. Keeps components sparkly clean, injectors being one of these. Ok it doesn't improve mpg but performance is definately improved due to the cetane increase. Every body will have a different experience, no two engines are ever the same and everybody drives different. But at about thirteen quid a bottle it's definately cheeper than two injectors. Would double dose for three tanks then drop down to normal. If it doesn't do anything at least you've only lost thirteen quid, if it does work you'll be laughing.:)

No offence taken!
I suppose that driving like a vicar in the pursuit of better MPG means that maybe i wouldnt notice (though using such products on the past you normally notice that the pick up is smoother), i have never stripped anything down to notice the internal state of any components like injectors, so i'll agree that at 13 quid you should give it a go. I'll not hijack the thread anymore and do a new one of injector cleaner/additive...

So does an in balanced injector mean its leaking or that it needs cleaning?
