Hi, I am hoping that someone can help here, but bear with me.. 2003 Td4 started getting harder to start after being stopped for over 15 mins.( 20 to 40 secs non cont cranking) Told it was injectors and bought second hand ones, but thought it was worth a try. Result , even harder to start, but ran smoother than ever ! Bit the bullet and bought a set of guaranteed recon injectors with test results. The car started straight away, ....but seems a bit lumpy on tickover and vibrates a little over 2000 rpm, and acceleration is not what it should be with severe vibration on hard acceleration over 50 mph ! Seems to smoke more than it should.
This auto model should have 0445 110 130 injectors, but I was sent and fitted 0445 110 049 injectors which the reconditioners say are the same and interchangeable ! My question is ..are they really the same, is there a bad injector, or has another problem suddenly developed ?
Please help as I would be pulling my hair out if I had any left !!

First off I have a set of 049 injectors in my auto as the engine came from a manual donor car and they are fine. I get more MPG than another TD4 auto with the 130's fitted.
Before changing injectors again I would get any fault codes read, clear them and run the car and see if any reappear. Also, problems restarting when warm has been found to be the camshaft sensor. You may have 2 faults working against you !
Also, get the live data read on the engine, what are the Low Pressure and High Pressure fuel rail readings?
Report back, sounds like there may also be a problem with your second set of injectors. Also don't mix the 130 and the 049's.

Thanks for reply. The low and high pressures are good and immediate which is why the garage said its the injectors. With the recon injectors , it starts immediately ( less than 2 seconds ) hot or cold. ( I also changed the heater plugs before the injectors, but made no difference ). No other faults on live data. I occasionally get a code P1503 ( I think from memory) which says memory backup problem !!! I thought it might need coding but I believe not for Freelanders, and there were no codes on old or recon injectors other than normal part numbers etc .

Difficulty starting can be many things, but MAF, rail sensor connections, cam sensor, and pressure regulator O rings could all be responsible.

As stated, the poor starting was the injectors. Starts perfectly now with recon injectors, but has less power and vibrates on acceleration with some smoke...possibly running rich ! No faults logged . Is it the recon injectors ?

smoke...possibly running rich

A diesel can't run rich in theory, but it can have insufficient air available to burn all the fuel being injected, which is sort of the same thing, but it's different.

Check all boost pipes carefully, as injectors which aren't working correctly can mask boost leaks, which better functioning injectors find.;)

Here is one of mine which is an '02 auto box. I had my doubts after I had changed them as well, because I read the same or similar somewhere, but LR confirmed those are the right ones for my td4. Can't remember the exact reason he mentioned anymore.

What condition is your fuel rail pressure sensor in? Are there any signs of water having got to the connectors? There is an official LR modified loom to help overcome the problem of water ingress into this sensor. It's worth checking, as it cause me no end of hair pulling last year after my TD4 had not been used for a year.
