hay all my dt4 is giving me a hard time dont know whats wrong struggle to start then goes fine for a few km
then mil comes on can feel loss of power through turbo then a few km later cuts out.if switch off for few seconds while going then on again fault goes away for few kms but gets worse after a few times then cuts out no starting after about 20 min starts again did do diagnostics but shown no error or code even with mil light on.

jobs done so far
drained all oil
replace all filters,clean tank mounted pump,cleaned pressure sensor and cam sensor,bypassed egr and cleaned intake manifold also cleaned hhp pressure regalator
any advice please?
 
Have you replaced the turbo solenoid filter (the one that looks like an old fuel filter)?
 
Usually when the engine management light comes on the ECU has detected the same fault several times, it clears by itself once the fault has gone and a number of miles done or if you clear the fault with a reader. I have one of those cheap £25 eBay readers that on my vehicle seems to work fine but a friends it's another story. So, I'd double check with another reader assuming you haven't taken it to a dealership for them to check which by the way could be done - waltz up, ask them to check and tell you what's wrong - they ought to do that for free assuming they think your going to bring it to them to fix.

As for non starting, my 1st thoughts check to see if you have 12v to the glow plugs then check to see if any are open circuit, means disconnecting them and using multimeter to see if they have low resistance. That would rule them out. Like most things, it's a process of elimination. The fact it cuts out doesn't sound good. It also sounds like loss of power / mil light illuminating suggests "limp home mode", meaning the ECU thinks normal engine power could be destructive. I'd find another way to interrogate the ECU "what it thinks is wrong" that'll help you big time. The ECU has set limits for everything, if any part of the system goes outside those limits it alerts you, from open/short circuits to poorly positioned actuators/valves. It's pretty clever stuff but I wouldn't be afraid of it. Pretty vague but hope it helps.
 
life with a td4 freelander is a wonderful thing it can consume your days with problems who the hell put so many sensors on an engine any way after embarrassment being over taken by an artic got hold of a local man who actually knows about the td4 despite the mil light saying other wise recommended the camshaft sensor changed done this and runs a treat easy to fit but now coming up with p1470 which states throttle body fully open? doesn't alter speed though
 
Don't know if it is any help but I had a Discovery that did the same, I could not believe people were telling me it was the fuel injector seals, I just laughed but in the end fitted
them and never had any trouble after that. unbelievable but true.
 
touch wood after £with 40 spent on turbo cleaner and every over tank with Morison's diesel injector cleaner it seems fine **** the germans leave us alone bought a car that I believe is ENGLISH and than told amican ford german powered what the fuuuck

Yup, I had two injectors on a TD4 that were blowing past the copper washers. Pain in the rear to get the injectors out but otherwise an easy job.
