Hi all I have td4 mk1 when driving it thumps like yor go over railway lines
So the question is , is it the prop or transfer box,
Can I take the prop off to see if its that and will it run just on the front wheels
Any help will be great

No I had the car up all 4 wheels in gear as it gos round it sort of stops and then gos again
With a jolt , if that helps

Id start by removing entire prop and vcu assembly.......lots of people run them in 2wheel drive.
Running this way should stop any further damage until you pin point the problem.
When you say it goes round then stops and goes again with a jolt....do you mean the prop? Or somthing else.

Yes just the prop and its quite a bang, I will take the prop off and try that, do I need one off them blanking plates ?

The wife said as she was driving it made a big bang and she pulled over and stoped then moved off again and this is when it sounds like your driving over railway sleepers if that make sense

It sounds as though you have possibly knackered either rear diff and or the ird.
This normally happens due to the vcu falling and putting extra load on the drive train or running with mis matched tyres.
Hopefully it will be the ird and it won't be too far gone so That you can use it in 2 wheel drives hilts saving for the repairs.

Ok I have taken off the prop and I'm still getting that clunk clunk clunk as I drive , is it the transfer box?
If so whares the best place to get one from, my car is a td4 auto dose this make a difference and how hard is it to do, any special tips to know
Thanks Paul
