Hi i have a knock coming from the front around the drivers footwell when pulling away or accerarating sharply on and of throttle. New drop links and rear centre diff bush and no change. Lower engine mount looks like it has been changed recently. Removed the propshaft to rule that out and seems to have made it worse. Anyone any ideas

The prop shaft will 'dampen' engine movement somewhat, so if its got worse it could point back to the lower engine mount.

Over the years I've had various bangs, clunks and knocks when pulling away - some going forwards, others at different times predominantly when reversing. I've never fixed them - but they've all gone away given time :) I'm not necessarily saying time is the correct solution to all knocks!

Depends on what it allows to knock together I suppose. Can you feel it through anything (floor, peddles, gearstick, steering wheel) as well as hear it?

Down by the pedals
It's not a heavy knock.dosent feel like anything jotting the floor. Someone said it may be the transfer box on its way out

I doubt its the transfer box (IRD) - especially if it gets worse after taking the props off. However you could examine the drivers side drive shaft inner CV to see if there's any play in it, that can take its support bearing out in the IRD and that can then lead to more serious issues inside it.

I'd check that your ARB hasn't shifted to the right and is contacting the suspension...

Others may have different suggestions.

Thanks for all the advice. Will check later if the heavy rain goes of.

My persistent knock felt through the floor turned out to be a front wishbone rear bush split out of its housing.

Wishbone are ok , recently replaced lower ball joints as rubbers were split and hoping the noise was from there. Drove tonight with head out the window and it sounds like it's high up around the top to the back of engine. Top mount looks newish.

I replaced the main top mount of my L Series a couple of months back with a new aftermarket one. It was terrible, no knocks but huge amounts of vibration. Gave up on it in the end and put the old original one back on - it had failed a WOF test but when I examined it it looked fine!

How was the rear bush? They look fine until you take the wishbone out of them. Mine looked fine and even passed it's MOT for 2 years. It still knocked through the floor though. I only discovered the condition of the bush while I was replacing the wishbone.
