The Mrs's 04 Td4 has slowly but surely over the last few mths become more & more uneconomical. I don't know if its relevent but there is quite a cloud of smoke on start up. There are no noises & it runs lovely and its serviced regulary and it starts on the button.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks Ian

Difficult to test for but suspect a faulty MAF sensor. Try removing and cleaning with contact cleaner and monitor changes in smoke and mpg. You could also try running for a while with it disconnected and see if anything changes.

Dirty crankcase breather also known to cause smoke at start up so if you don't know when/if that's been changed then do it anyway.

Great! Many thanks I'll give that a go.. Oh by the way the Mrs's one is the same as the one on your avatar :)

Bear in mind that although it gone a bit milder now last months temps will have had some effect on fuel consumpion....

Will do but it seems as the weather has got milder the mpg does not seem to of got any better.. Many thanks

hi ian, just to say the smoke you are getting on start up,is it unburnt fuel? if so might be worth putting some injector cleaner in the tank and see if it helps.good luck.tim.

Hi Tim. I'm not sure if its unburnt fuel, its quite a cloud though.. Good idea & it was something that crossed my mind and now you have mentioned it I will give it a go. Many thanks Ian
