Hi all my friends td4 freelander has been having a with its front n/s drive shaft. last we we were taking a left hand corner at 50/60 and it popped a shaft but it left the cup in the box and spilt the inner cv boot it did carry on driving but shaft was wrecked. Now the second had shaft is in, it looks to short and as soon as he pulled off the drive it has stretched the inner boot again and pulled the inner joint again. Is the outer joint ment to extend in and out to ?

Front ones are different lengths left and right. There is some allowance for expansion to accommodate the suspension but you have either the wrong shaft or sommat is put together wrong!!

Pop a photo up of the front wheel and shaft etc, we might spot it.

Def too short, possibly the wrong way around or wrong shaft.

There is a load of rust under there!! Worth tapping the wishbones as they can rot through.

Aren't the shafts different lengths for different engines as well? Might have one for the wrong motor.

Think some new metal is needed to hold the hub on! That looks rotten as. A Tratterer would be well proud of it :D

Yeah it came off a TD4, but am thinking something has moved. Why would it of poped out in the first place, as yous say the bottom arm is canny rusty, will keep you updated

To be fair it wasn’t until I nicked the ball joint out the arm fell apart, is not my car it’s a friends. The shaft was fitted the first time buy just removing the front arm bolt and swing the arm down an shaft cam out, well it’s all going back together tomorrow
