Hi,

Hope the link works. Any ideas on the loud whistle? The car does this whenever it gets to 2000rpm and beyond. If you lift off the throttle and maintain the rpm it goes, but starts again on acceleration. No noise on idle. Thanks in advance.

If it is a whistle that would imply pressurised air escaping - so have you checked all the induction hoses are intact and the intercooler? Maybe also the inlet manifold - isn't it plastic on the TD 4 and liable to breaking on the joins?

However, its did sound rather metalicy, so as said above is the 'fan' belt slipping, or could be a bearing on one of the ancillaries - or as the TD4 is prone to, the main pulley delaminating - shining a torch on the pulley and looking for small metal particles moving around seems to be the way to check for this.

Whistle could be turbo hoses or clips but to me it sounded like a brassy scream! As above test ancillaries by taking belt off that will eliminate alternator, water pump, pas, tensioner and reduce the load on bottom pulley. Also could slacken air con belt and try it again.

Hi all
I’ve had the Landy checked and It seems the noise is a failed gasket on the end of the engine manifold pipe. The bit near the turbo that connects onto the exhaust pipes. Looks very tight in there so after being told it’s £350
Just to have a look. I’ll have to do it with a friend over a few weekends next year. Have patched it up with gasket seal for now and the car is much quieter. I’m assuming there is a gasket in this location???

Don't kqnow whether or not there is a gasket but I had loose nuts on that fitting a while back. Found the down pipe moving while doing something else underneath. Not wanting to snap the studs I sprayed the threads and then after a day or two loosened a bit then tightened the nuts. It is tight in there but if you remove the left fromt wheel, get under and fit a socket then extensions out through wheel arch allow a ratchet to be fitted on the end. Be gentle and then tighten them down to see if this stops leak.

Thanks. Here is a picture of the part we think is leaking. Covered in gasket seal but hopefully you can make it out. Big job!
