Morning All,

Last or the week before the car was in the garage for oil change and I was wondering if it's now really overfilled. I cleaned the stick several times and when I did it it was always midway through where I left it filled, but this looks too much. Couldn't make it due to weather this time.
The HP pump was changed some month back, so would rule that out. Could there be anything else causing it? Cooling level is fine. I think they put in 5W40.

Has car been standing for a few hours before reading dipstick?

Looks high. If worried, drain, measure and refill. 6.8 Litres is correct.

I think there is 1 littre more than needed.
I think they put 6.8 littres in it, no matter on how much they remove from the car.
I never manage to put more than 6 littres in an oil change.

One solution is to go to the garage that made the mistake and ask them to remove 1 littre.

Yes, from about 6:30 till 9:30 this morning, so should be fine. Might go to the garage to get checked if I can't do it.

If you already payed someone to do the job, you need to get back to him.
If a garage can't do a basic task like oil change ...
 
I always like to put in 6.6litres so the oil reads between the max & and min marks on the dip stick, as above drain and refill, put 6.5litres in start the car let it settle for at least an hour on level ground, take a reading and then top up at 100ml a time letting it settle for 15 minutes between each top up, until you have your required or like reading, then give it a drive, check it again after an hour.

Thanks @Arctic2, yes l did the same, filled up 5l and waited it for a while and filled by .5l increments, but those blokes in the garages seem never to have time.
Yes, changed the PCV myself around same time as the car wasn't good to drive.
 
This is probably an overfill, but plenty of new kit has failed immediately or soon after - so the HP pump could be the culprit.

If the garage sort the oil level and you check it when you get it back to be OK - check it again after a while to just to make sure its not the pump.

I use the suck method for the wife's Eos, as getting the belly pan off is worse than a FL1 sump guard. :eek:

I can only ever get 4 L of oil back in, when the oil capacity is 4.8L, meaning that almost a litre remains in the sump. Now if I was to simply add the book change volume, the oil would be 0.8L over full.
Using the pump is rather handy, as the correct VW oil only comes in 1L or 4L containers. :D

They did it the old way and filled in what they took in l.
Was there earlier and they said it would be fine. Bit odd, have shown him one of the pictures. Asked me if I would have turned the dipstick around, said no only for the picture to lift a bit. Checked again when home looks the same like on the picture. I think I'll suck a bit out tomorrow and refill to what I think should be fine like last time after the HPp was changed. Thanks Andy.
 
This is probably an overfill, but plenty of new kit has failed immediately or soon after - so the HP pump could be the culprit.

This morning when we went out with the do it smelt badly, but again not sure if oil or diesel. Then it disappeared.
Have taken some more pictures and am puzzled how that can be ok here:

It's at an angle that it should be fine for the check, but if I would wait for a while then it would maybe rinse down and look ok, I guess.

Did they say how much they put in?

If it rises, then you've got a leaking HP pump.

No, they didn't say how much they put in, just that it was much as they took out. The one bloke from that garage said once when I mentioned 6.8 litres, he would be surprised if more than 5.5l would go in. When I sucked it out the other day, I thought it smells like burned oil and when I smelled near the dipstick opening it really did. I doubt they got it all out.
