hey guys

Having an issue with the engine, almost surging or searching for revs. Whilst running at a constant speed (doesnt happen under acceleration or when off power and coasting), there is a very small and sudden surge in the engine, the revs or the speed dont jump at all but you can defo feel it in the cab, along side the surge there is a clicking sound coming from the driver side under and behind the front right wheel.

Any clues please as i love this car but boy she tests me!!

are all of your injectors ok as I take it as a td4 engine I used to get this but got some redx 1 shot and now the engine is running a lot better

this is a well known problem affecting some TD4 engines, it is known as the 2k misfire as it usually comes in at around 2000 revs, my last TD4 was fine for the first year then it started the misfire exactly as you describe. There is no known cure you just have to live with it but I did find it very annoying and was glad to replace the car with another TD4 which is perfect

thanks guys, what youve said hits the nail on the head, always at 2k revs is when it kicks in.

I will have a look at the injectors just incase, but this is not a daily drive, so may just cut my loses and get a disco or if my wife lets me, a 110.

rekon i'd be checking the turbo solenoid .. and making sure the turbo vane mechanism is not sticking ..
[ i've never encountered the mysterious 2k misfire ..]

My SE auto also suffers the 2k misfire. I've done extensive investigation which has basically drawn a blank. I believe it's possibly down to intake charge contamination with oil vapour, as there an amount blue smoke emitted when it's misfiring. I've yet to identify the source of this oil vapour, but the breather circuit would seem logical. One day I might install a catch tank, if nothing more than to eliminate any possibility of the breather causing contamination.
