Hi, and merry Christmas to all.

Need a bit of advice…

Yesterday the tailgate stopped working.

Today I find out that the rear lights are not working, despite new bulbs…

No rev counter, no speedometer, no temp and no fuel…

Lights for abs, hdc and handbrake are on…

Can anyone point me in are direktion on where to start looking ?

The car start and run ?

Check the fuses in the engine bay.

More certainly a broken wire, check for any broken wire from the internal fuse box to the engine bay.

Also check earth points are in the engine bay, they are directly bolted to the car body.

Use a multimeter, check the continuity. Don’t use a wire to do some testing … unless you want to do more damage.

I occasionally have a similar snag on the instrument binnicle.
No gauges function, but those lights come on. It happens randomly when the engine is running and driving.
Worse in the winter....
Recycle the ignition and everything works again.
I cannot find the issue, learnt to ignore it.
This may or may not be connected to your issues!

On my early car, I'm pretty sure the Amigo lights are wired straight to the ABS ECU. So even if what ever controls the rest of the dials and lamps fail, if the ABS ECU is alive, those lights will work.

I know the later dash displays are more network message related than individual wires. Not sure if that came in with the 2000 cars or later, eg Teves Mk25 ABS or facelift.

I think Rave electrical circuit diagrams are the starting point here.

For the OP, you need to go right back to the earliest difference in circuit between the ABS and those other things. Tailgate is controlled by the CCU, but may get power separately and activated by a relay, so you're tracing back the power source route. If other CCU controlled items (eg windows) have failed, trace the CCU power source back.

@CJK I'm not an electronics guru, but if an electronics item is failing intermittently, in my mind that means if is not a fuse. It will either be a relay or dodgy connection.

So I found the problem.

Mouse or Rat have been eating the RH wiring loom, underneath the dashboard.
Now I have to figure out how to fix it…

I don't know how expensive they are or how complex it is to change, but might be worth swapping out the instrument cluster.

Pretty sure you would need to be careful on what model year the car came from. I presume it could be no earlier than a MY01 when the TD4 was introduced and could not be from a facelift - but whether there are differences within the 2000 to 2004 cars I don't know.

There have been quite a few threads on this over the years I believe, but not of late I don't think.

Oh dear, that's a lot of wires damaged.

As for fixing it, first thing I'd do is get a cat.
 
Hi,

Fix the mousse entrance first if possible, cats are lazy at the job …

For so many wires, try to find a preowned wires from an used car …

If you have soldering skils, replace each wire part that has been cut … each cable has it’s own color.
