Na then

New (to us/madam) Td4 has got coolant leak! dribbling down the front of the block from the left of the starter motor, bin doing it for a while as there's stalicties & stuff where it's bin dribbling. Got to get it sorted as it's "her" car and she don't do warning lights!

I bought a 2001 TD4 freelander diesel BMW engine (all that to avoid known problems) just to come back home from the dealer with no problems on the way and on arriving home a massive coolant leak emptied the system in 10 minutes!
any ideas?

fill it up again and look for where its leaking from. check all hoses, rad, heater matrix, expansion tank, ird cooler etc. if you remove the undertray you will find it easier to spot leaks.
 
Just found my big coolant leak , the pink stuff was pouring out of a plastic hose connector attached to the engine block on the front of the engine, the plastic has disintegrated inside causing the o ring to pop out .
To find the leak you will have to remove the accoustic cover , and all the intake pipework below it on the front of the engine. It is in between the oil filter and starter motor and is secured by 3 x 10mm bolts.

Replacement part cost about £10 , and has a BMW stamp on it .

There are some very tricky quick release connectors to prise apart from it , one BIG hose goes back to the radiator and a small hose connects to a steel pipe .

I reckon the heat has affected the plastic - I don,t advise getting a s/hand one.

You can find the leak safely by dropping the undertray and getting a friend to squeeze the large hose coming off the radiator (best done cold).

My whole Hippo seems to be disintegrating at the moment:rolly:

I was looking at that plastic pipe on mine:5bcoolgleamA: There was some pink around it,but nothing major...I just nipped up the 3 bolts a little more... :5bhurray:

What do you mean by its disintegrated inside?....... you mean its being eaten from the inside out? like rust but on plastic?

any pics?

Those clips can be right basstards!!!:5bbanghead: but these seems to work for me. :D

Do you have a part number for the connection that bolts onto the block and the pipes connect to, mine is leaking from the same place
