hi there gents,

having some issues with a recently purchased td4 04 reg SE 3dr.

the cluch feels as though it needs a really good blead, but as ive not owned it long can i be sure there is not a more serious/expensive problem.

when pulling away i need to pump the pedal 5 or 6 times to get into first with no crunching, while driving i dont need to pump to change but the bite is verrry low and the pedal does not sit at the same hight as the other two.

seems like a blead issue to me but with out sounding like too much of a cabbage i cant at a glance see the blead nipple either.

and to pose another question if it is just air in the wrong place, how did it get there:confused:

TD4 clutches can be really tedious. Needing bleeding is not uncommon....the bleed nipple is down the right hand side of the engine above the gearbox. Its easier to get it if you take the 90degree boost hose off the EGR. You will see a metal pipe disappearing towards the left and another metal pipe sticking out from the left with the bleed nipple on it. You need a 13mm spanner to hold the body and I think a 10mm to unscrew the nipple.

Mine needs done every two or three months. I suspect a worn master cylinder is letting a small amount of air into the system, which builds up over time until there is enough air to prevent the clutch working well.

I've known one to do it before and it was the slave cylinder leaking inside the bell housing
