A friend of mine who works for a certain well known tyre and exhaust place and does the MOT testing says the CAT is now part of the test as in visual inspection(must be there) as I myself was looking at a de-cat but after herering that didn't bother not sure how true this is but just what I'd heard maybe someone could shed light further on this

if thats true do what i said above about taking it off and knocking the middle out... if you can also put a pipe through the middle of cat once its knocked out weld up the ends and then refit that way the cat is a straight through pipe but no one knows any difference

this is the relevant section of the manual

Check
3 On petrol engine vehicles that qualify for a full
catalyst emissions test, check the presence of
the catalytic converter.

Fail
3. A catalytic converter missing where one was
fitted as standard.

So as I understand it its only a petrol that will fail if a cat was fitted not a diesel
