Hello, I'm having trouble with my freelander 1 td4 automatic, its hard to engage reverse. Other gears works fine only reverse is not working. I can hear the engine sound changes when shifting to reverse, but it doesnt move. My uncle used this car before and he said the gearbox had been rebuild. My question is, when the reduction band fail, can it move forward too? And I want to know how hard is it to remove gearbox and fix the band myself. Another problem is, I'm having problem with my shift selector indicator, it doesnt light up anymore, only sports mode is working. Is there any way to test shift selector indicator to confirm it is dead?

Hi

You can try an oil change in the 1st place.
If any better, you need to change the solenoi
thanks for your reply mate, I checked atf fluid and it still looks good, however I will try to change it. Any idea about selector indicator? Is there any way to test it?

If you speak about the display panel which indicate selected speed, and the vehicule mileage ?

Find a car electronic specialist, that can fix it.

If you have a fault tester, you can read gearbox fault codes, can help in some case.
Depending on where the solenoids are, they can be serviced without removing the gear box.

If its the reverse brake band yer need to remove the gearbox. Then split the gearbox to get to it.

Do you still have problems with it?
