Hi,

Thanks for the replies, I have worked out that if i push the lever slightly forward when I move it to the right it does go into sport mode but if I just push it across it doesn't. Seems a bit odd to me. I did get it from a garage but they sold it as a sport premium and I think I got had because whilst it has full leather seats the stereo is a basic one with standard speakers and no subwoofer etc. Bit worried to take it bakc and get anything done to it.

Thanks

The Sports Premium should have Karman Hardon 8 speaker system including sub-woofer in the rear 'cubby-box'. The cubby-box lid should have no lock on it.

Have a look at the 2004 brochure link and see what all it should have.

If there's something wrong tell them and take it back. If you've bought an AA and they sold you a BB then they have miss sold the item to you. If you get no where then mention trading standards. What does it say on your paperwork the car is? What was it advertised as and dp you still have a copy of the advert?

Auto problem... are you saying the s/m light doesn't do what it should, but with the gear lever in D for drive and then move it across to the right, then it's still not right. Push forward slightly and it then goes into sport mode?

I'm sure I've read it does somewhere. Might of been the rave disk. Oh well.

Dunno about hippo boxes, but it's normal on most modern autos for them to adapt to your driving style, you can drive two identical vehicles, one will go like stink the other will pull away in second and potter around. But if you drive them hard it doesn't take them long to get the hint and readapt to a new driving style. You normally manage it on a short road test. So it should have relearned by now and they are clearly talking out of their arses!:D

Is there anything written on the speakers etc? I dont have a copy of the ad as such but this is the cached webpage before it was removed.

The interesting thing is that the stereo didn't work when I picked it up and when I looked at it it wasn't even connected. It was then I noticed the stereo I have isn't the one in the photos as the one in the photos has an eject button below the load whereas the one i have just has an eject button. I assume then that it did have a 6 disc multi changer when the photo was taken but someone swapped it out for a single cd one at some point and didn't even bother to reconnect it.

It just says sport on the paperwork, does the premium actually say premium, i.e. is a different model. At the time I just assumed the the premium but was an upgrade to the sport model.

I get more and more confused as I investigate! So looking on the 2004 brochure I should have a sunroof, power folding door mirrors and a harmon kardon sound system all of which I don't have. However, I do have the black leather seats (that the brochure says is premium only), heated seats and roof rails.

if you only have some of the features of the premium, then it may be the lower spec but with extras, rather than the higher spec with bits missing.

That's what I reckon too

Yes - the leather seats were an optional extra (at huge cost) available on the lower models.

To answer the OP's question re the speakers the only ones to have Karmen Hardon or Hardmen Carmen, or whatever it is, written on them are the little tweeter jobs on the door frame up behind the door mirrors.

I also think it's a lower spec model which they've claimed is higher spec in order to get a higher sale value. :(

Just land rover freelander. But I hav a copy of the advert detailing its a sport premium.
If your unhappy with the spec then the reasonable thing they should do is take it back or allow you to change it to another. It may be a mistake, but it's their mistake. If your happy with the spec but a little ****ed due to feeling conned then they could offer a part refund. Make sure you keep your own copy of the advert and show them a copy too. You saw it advertised and thats the reason you went to see it. If you don't get anywhere then there is the legal route. The one thing you should do is mention Trading Standards. Even if they put right their wrong, it's still worth reporting what they've done. Trading Standards log info and may look you up in the future if they have a number of complaints about the same seller/garage. Take someone with you as a witness and for support when you return to the garage. Good luck.

Thanks for the help :) I am overall happy with the car but have had to now spend some more money upgrading the sound system to something like what it should have been originally. My best case is that they offer a refund of some amount.

Well after a conversation that went along the lines of "Its your problem you should have checked everything before you took the car" we have reported them to Trading Standards who will now be dealing with it.

Its a shame really as I really love the car but I keep finding more and more wrong with it. The latest being the front left tyre has worn a lot on the inside and it sounds like a wheel bearing is going on the same wheel.
