Good evening all,

Just on with swapping my turbo, all going ok but struggling to remove the oil return pipe off the turbo. Most seem to leave this and simply undo the jubilee clip where the rubber pipe joins the metal pipe but i just cant see it. very tight on space. would it make any difference that mine is an auto rather than manual on space etc?
Any advice appreciated.
 
have you done it yet some people miss the three bolts at the top , the thing to do is take the air filter out and there are three plugs take these out and put them saf as you need to put them back and the three bolts are there they are splined but a good fit socket will undo them .if you do not put the plugs in the three holes you could have a fire like i nearly had
 
Good evening, Yes I did it last Saturday. I had a bit of a job undoing the oil return hose jubilee as I couldn't get a socket on but persevered with a spanner. I found the 4 bolts through the air filter quite easy and the exhaust bolts were mercifully quite easy. The whole lump dropped out. Getting the replacement one back in was another story. That I found difficult. I ended up slackening off the securing bracket just enough to rotate it 180 degrees then push it back once in place. I think the other problem was that the oil return pipe on the turbo was snagging on the rubber pipe to which it connects. Once the pipe went in the rubber section it went straight in. This alone took me 3 hours and nearly beat me !!!
Everything else back on and I took it for a spin. Turbo spooled up, and filled the village with burning oil smoke. (I thought I had not cured the original problem of knackered turbo oil seals) However after a couple of miles at speed it eventually cleared. I paid £70 for my second hand turbo, a bit of a gamble but it paid off !!!
