Hi Guys
Can anyone shed any light on the following. Had a new crankshaft pulley fitted, all fine. Code for radio did not work so spoke to Landrover, they took radio out and sent off for code, code input all fine. Then... engine management light comes on, take it in new turbo boost valve fitted, light returns, take it back say need new turbo, decide to put this off as laid off in November. Now the radio acts weird by going to different stations, can't take off traffic alert, alarm armed light flashes while you drive! Now I have noticed that the wipers are taking between 3-10minutes before they start, worse the colder it gets. Engine management light comes on for a couple of hours (normally when the revs go over 2000), then it goes off for a couple of days. Just don't want a new turbo if it's another fault, just weird it started after they took the radio out? Anyone got any ideas...please! Also the power seems about the same whether light on or light off! a bit better with light off.

Why did they take the radio out was it original? if so all they needed was you reg number if you have no white smoke or black smoke then turbo should be fine but have you checked your turbo hoses usually the small one with the right hand bend in it also the long one catches on a screw on the engine, maybe taking the radio out coursed the problem ,

Assuming you have only one fault ( maybe you have many), my money would be on something systemic, such as Battery, Alternator or battery connections. Perhaps something in that area was disturbed by recent work?
I also have a 2004 TD4, and I'm working through my list of problems...

wonder if pulling out the radio fuses would help
( 2 separate fuses in the cab fuse box )

sort of all sounds like a computer gremlin ..
like when coffee/tea is spilt on a keyboard .. and computer starts to do weird things
( recently did that to my laptop .. all sorts of strange things happened )

i took my hippo in for some work ..
battery was disconnected ..
i go to put in the radio code .. fail ..
noted that 1 of the radio fuses were missing .. .. replaced fuse ..
tried again .. no go .. radio don't want to accept the code ..
i know the code is the right one having had to do it once before ..

only 2nd post,,sounds like you are taking the ****, wipers taking 3 to 10 mins before they start ?

I can assure you John T... I am not taking the ****! And you can stick your unwarranted comment up your exhaust pipe!!! Who needs comments like yours when you are asking for genuine help. Now to update the situation, the wipers are still taking up to 10 minutes to come on, and today I and a Freelander mechanic solved the problem, it was the stalk on the steering column!!! It was not making a full connection when you turned the wipers on and possibly vibration was eventually making the contact, A new stalk has now been ordered, the radio is still playing up, and investigation seems to point to a faulty faceplate, (the bit with the buttons on). I have just had it fully serviced and at present the management light is off, the mechanic gave an opinion it was dirty filters causing the problem, but to monitor it and see. Thank you for all your helpful comments, with one exception. Sadly I will probably look for another forum as to have my second post insulted by a jumped up '####' has left me with a rather nasty taste in my mouth!

Perhaps you're right and you should look for another forum if one comment is going to have you spitting you're dummy. We have over 120,000 members and you're never going to get on with them all.

It'd be a shame though as this is the best and the busiest :)

My advice would be to pull on your rhino skin jacket, pick up your toys and get stuck in.

Your choice :)
