Hi guys,

Changed my top and bottom ball joints both sides on front axle this week and put back together, on putting back together and trying on the road I was getting TC light as soon as pulling off engaging the brakes. The only thing I thought I did differently was changing the o-ring on the drivers side sensor as the old one snapped. I figured it may be getting a weaker signal if not in as far, so off came the wheel again and it went back with a more compressed o-ring. This worked - slightly. The tc came back on on full lock left then randomly when driving down the road. Then I got the three aminos back and not resetting when turning off the ignition.

Edit:- I’ve already done the shuttle valve three amigos rewiring.

Any ideas? When it’s light I’ll have another go reseating both sensors but if anyone has ideas whether I’ve damaged one during the change or they if it just needs adjusting or a way to test it with the wheels off I’d appreciate it!

Which at least told me which wheel was the problem and enabled me to turn the amigos off. As well as giving me codes.
There are a lot of peeps on this forum who have had exactly the same problem.
I dare not say too much as others know more than I do, but I do know the wretched sensor/reluctor ring combo can be very sensitive. There has to be just a <= .5mm gap between ring and sensor, if the bearing is worn this can change enough, as the wheel turns, to trigger codes which turn on the amigos.
You could try buying just a new sensor and fitting it to each wheel in turn until you manage to get the amigos off. And I suppose it is just possible you have the problem on both wheels. But often you get stuck having to change a hub and the sensor it comes with.
I know that once cured, the amigos are supposed to go off after you reach a certain (low) speed, but in my case I had to turn them off with the diagnostic, and mine was a rear one.
Anyway, others will come on and give you advice too.

Thanks for the advice, I’m betting it’s the sensors as I had no issue before replacing the joints I don’t think the hub will have changed for taking off and back on. Now I’ve said it the hub will be the problem! :rolleyes:
I’ll have a look at buying one, I know when I previously had the three amigos and did the shuttle valve wiring mod it reset itself when the engine was off, this is saying on now with ABS on straight away followed by the other two before even moving after s few seconds. It’s like the old girl likes hurting me! The ball joints were hassle enough! FYI anyone the p clamp advertised to remove them is awful. I made a press with a jack and shocked them in, worked much better.
One side was shimmed so I might take the shims out and put them in with no o rings just to see if it solves. Hopefully it won’t need resetting otherwise I won’t even know if works!
The Land Rover specialist at the end of my road will hopefully have a diagnostic... if not I’ll bite the bullet! Annoying cos I’ll probably sell the disco when get my fender on road :confused:
 
@Stanleysteamer they’re a lot cheaper than others I saw! Isn’t bad for 120!
Came recommended by a respected member on here. I paid a bit more but still cheaper than either of the other two better-known ones and doesn't have the disadvantage one of them has of telling you the fault is on the wrong hub!

Re placed the existing with the shims and a thinner oring, the TC has stopped engaging which I’m hopeful is a good sign... 3 amigo lights won’t reset though! Even after a drive around the block :rolleyes: so gana see if work garage or the Indy at bottom of road can let me use their diagnostic and hopefully it’ll just be to reset it... hopefully :confused:
If not I’ll invest in that foxwell, at least maybe I’ll know what needs changing then! Sometimes I swear it’s just better to chuck all the bits you take off away and put on new ones cos you end up doing it half the time anyway!
 
Bit the bullet and brought the Fox well! Can’t be bothered with the garage will come in handy in future anyway! I’ll let you know what it says

Good for you, handy bit of kit you can carry around in the glove box and covers all LAnd Rovers and Jags, for one price unlike the other fu ckers that charge you for every single variation or model.

I’ve got the foxwell I’m just trying to get it to connect to the disco now but having no luck? Any ideas what I’m doing wrong? Just says unable to link

If in doubt do make sure the ignition is turned to at least first position if not second.
Other question of course is "who did you buy it from?" as they come up on the market at a range of prices. From a range of suppliers.

I thought it had the software in when you order as you specify! It was a bit of a mare to find out how to register and put the Land Rover software on it from the PC. Was fine after I found instructions on the net but the instructions with it left me wanting honestly :confused::p once figured that out it’s really good!
Lots of functions, identified the fault straight away, left hand sensor reading 0 compared to other 3. Better than stabbing in the dark, new one ordered shouldn’t take long to swap! Seems like the Fox well can do a lot of programming functions as well I’m trying to see if you can use it for keys at the moment
Mine ended up being the NT530. Think they other is replaced by this

i bought a new hawkeye total does all models now, my old one had to be unlocked, easy to use and hold there money!

Hawkeye does do a lot more thana foxwell but for all it does, I have to ask myself, how much of that would I use, and the answer was "not a lot". I could not justify the cost, especially as I'd have had to pay to unlock it for my other Discos. The Foxwell does all Land rover models and Jaguars.
It is value for money and I have yet to hear of anyone complaining that it isn't. How much did your new one cost

So pleased you are pleased with it. do not understand why you had to register and put software on it from the PC. The one i bought came with LR-Jaguar stuff on it. Maybe you bought the 530 with no software on it and then had to download what mine already had. I did specify LR-Jag when I ordered it. We must have got it from different suppliers. I did pay just under £200 for mine, then found I could have got it a lot cheaper (£60 to£70 less) by going on the bay etc. When I spoke to Foxwell about this they had stuff to say about it, as you would imagine.
PS I think it does do keys.

hawkeye total does not require a unlock for others, does them all
 
It was £130. Which isn’t bad in reality. Cost you a few quid just to get fault codes read at a garage so defo worth investment even if I’m planning to sell the disco when fender is ready.
I brought mine from Fox well direct at that price and specified lr/jag but for some reason on mine you have to register then update and download your chosen makes files. It only had obd on it out the box which is why it was confusing me!
Hopefully the new sensor arrives tomorrow then mot next week!
It made me laugh how I’d managed to do all the steering ball joints, rear brake pipes, pads new drag links then stopped by TC I was just like typical :confused::rolleyes:
Jacks are the way forward for the ball joints too! The p clamp I used was awful! We made a jig for jack used the cups from p clamp was only bits worth money in kit! and used the spring to hold top one down. Just have to catch it and tie back so can’t spring out

I’ll let you know it sensor solves all!
