ive been told i can tax my car online. can i? and if i can , do i have to wait for the disc to be sent through the post before i can drive even though ive already taxed my car from the date i taxed it from?

Yep simple to do it online !

but officially you must wait till the disc arrives .

The offence is Not displayin a valid tax disc !

they dunt mention it when you apply for yer disc tho!

cant believe they can still charge you wiv that.
the copper who charges you wiv that , even though you are clearly taxed must really be sniffin for promotion. although i spose its just another ridiculous law they have to enforce.
still , it would come up on their puter as taxed though wouldnt it?

Hmmmmmm

Bit of a "gray area" this one is:cool:

Ive had a few clients recently who have taxed there vehicles online and have driven them while waitin for the disc to arrive, Then a traffic warden has issued a ticket for none display only for the the local magistrates to throw the case out.

You can only get convicted for not displayin ya tax disc, if you are in actual possesion of it, if however you have taxed your vehicle online and are waiting for the disc to arrive, then in the eyes of the law you are legal to do so.

Yet another loophole for some geek at the DVLA to close at some point!!!!!

Used to be that old windscreen thing: 'Tax in the post'. Could you now equally use 'Tax in the ether'?

recently risked the whole 'online tax thing', mostly because i did it the day before the budget knowling full well it was going up and i'd get stung extra. Actually only took one day to arrive, and obviously i didnt wait till the last day of the month so had the old one to tootle round on.

Do like the get out clause for not displaying though!

you can apply on line any time after 15th of the month in which the old disc expires, so plenty of time for new disc to arrive, unless you're stupid enough to leave it till the last minute.

Too right. I could walk to the post office and get the tax in the time it takes for the pooter ro boot up.

my post office also sells other important things like milk and cigs which aint avail on the net ,well the cigs are but you gotta watch customs seem to be bit touchy bout such like

hes allready got to deliver the reminder if you do it online then your doubling his work load
has anyone ever heard there postie complain hes not got enough mail to carry no!!!
online tax is a ploy to increase posties workloads so the die young and it helps to sort out govt pension crisis:cool:
ps do posties still drive 90s in da country(added this as its a LR forum):p

it's legal mate, i'd just do it... the coppers only pull you these days if your car flashes up as un-taxed from the dvla computer thing.

il lose out on 10 days dave if i tax it now , not happy about that.
where is my discount for those ten days then?
