dirty hands

I’ve just spent a happy afternoon looking at mi tappets. I was going to have a go at adjusting them but had to settle for looking at them. Unfortunately I didn’t have anything the right size to turn the engine on the crank pulley. I’m off shopping this week and wondered if anyone new the size of the nut. The largest socket I had was a 34mm, its way bigger than that. I searched the good site and thought I’d read 27mm but sadly I think I’m mistaken. Does anyone know what it should be?

On the positive side, when I was taking the rocker cover off one of the nuts was very loose, what effect would that have on the running of the engine? All back together and nicely tightened now.

Mines 1 5/8"AF, yull probly have to get a 3/4"-1/2" drive reducing thingie as well cos I doubt that yull get a socket that size with 1/2" drive. As far as the loose rocker cover nut is concerned other than leaking even more oil it shunt mek any difference.

God bless you fellas.

"yer couuld stick it in gear and then jack up a wheel and use that to turn it ovva". I could'v done that, buggery bollox. Damn my literal thinking. Haynes step 1 take cover off, step 2 turn engine using crank nut...doh! You a genius. Thanks for the sizes Mr Grunt, its time to tool up and go shopping....

On a level driveway, I just put it in 4th gear (ignition off!), handbrake off and push the vehicle backwards and forwards to turn the injun over the required amount.
Easier if you've got an assistant.
