Yep I was 3 months in the Sahara, did 10k only broke one spring, one diff and a rock through the rad, so not bad in a 2a with a sankey

Some better pic's of Hoggar, (not taken by me) well worth the haul over the desert, 14 days ans 2,000 mls.
Once we got to Tammanrasset Land Rover spares were like a currency and I made a good wedge fixing landys on the campsite.

Nice one.. How did you get on cooking on a dakota fire pit..? (If you can remember).
How did the machine gun incident come about..? It all sounds good appart from that bit..

The baking turned out ok or at least it was edible, just wanted a change from salad, we mostly ate vegetarian, we did have a fridge but meat didn't keep long.
As for the machine gun thing, we drove through a small town in northern Algeria and saw a market so once out side of the town we set up camp and I went back to stock up on supplies. Whilst driving in a military jeep type vehicle pulled me over and 4 guys got out all dressed in green with shades on. They emptied the landy, rummaged through everything then started pulling interior panels of at which point I made my objections known. That is when I ended up in the dirt with a gun at my head, a few minutes latter they got back in their jeep thing and were gone.

I went to Tamanrasset via approx same route in 1972 with a 2a but from there i carried on to Cape Town.

Nice trip. Back when I went, once we had got to Tamanrasset I had several groups of people with ailing vehicles invite me to go along with them down Africa. I think by the time they had got there they had realised that it wasn't going to be plain sailing.
One group was the TV company ATV, they had 6 UMM's full of Venture Guides and were also going to Cape Town, they even offered to pay all my expenses. now that would of been a memorable trip:rolleyes: for some reason the girl friend wasn't so keen.
