l am still wondering what went wrong. Whole
thing seems strange.
Member on here, over 300 posts but not active since 2016
Then comes online saying he wants to "buy a Defender"
l PM him, he comes to look at mine, has a look underneath, and offers £18,000
We agree on £18,500 on the condition l can find a replacement vehicle.
He will get the money on the 28th July he says and can buy it after that.
After some let downs on vehicles from buyers and dealers, which l keep him updated about, l find one to buy and call him on the 29th July to say the Land Rover is available.
He sends a text saying he will "collect on Friday" and can he pay £5,000 cash and £13,500 bankers draft, if that's OK.
l respond that l can't take a bankers draft if he wants to take the car there and then, as it's not secure, and offer alternatives (bank transfer, cash, BACS, go to the bank together and transfer the cash)
He replies that he can't get the cash until next week, can't come during the day as he's busy, can't come on Saturday as he's on a job, no response to the other suggestions, and his "patience has run out, sorry"
After that he won't return my calls or messages and has not been back on here either.
l send a message offering a £500 discount, no response.
Leave a voicemail asking if he's still interested and if not please let me know as l have another interested buyer, no response.
All l ever had was his mobile phone number and name.

Sounds like a time waster. He probably wouldn't have turned up with the bankers draft.

Sounds like your well out of it, for that amount of money if there is the slightest whiff of something being not quite right just run.

l gave him a week, never heard anything.
Had the Defender on Ebay and other sales sites but didn't get any interest, needed to sell it so it went to a local dealer, they
gave me close to what l wanted for it and it's now on sale at £20,500
Dealers can get more because they give a warranty (well worth it on an old Defender, and this dealer is very good at honouring their warranties) taking part exchange etc.
lt's a good price for a 100,000 mile TD5 although it's a 90 XS SW so the most desirable version for many people.
Be interesting to see if it sells.

Well done, if your happy with the price that's a result.
The other thought is that if in the very near future there is a major failure of anything - unlikely but you never know - then you won't feel quite so guilty.

If it comes with a warranty peeps will sometime choose that as its a safe option if yer worried something could go wrong. It may not have sold for what he was asking.

Yeah l realise that, l am glad they managed to shift it quickly, we all need whatever money we can make at the moment.
And they were honest with me, they paid me £17,000 and the guy said "we'll put it up at £20-21,000" and that's exactly what they did.
There wasn't much to do to it, they sprayed the crossmember and bash plate, gave it a seats out valet, probably did a basic service and it needed an MOT.

This is what the missus is driving now, l've been using it this week and it's like a mini Defender, the ride quality though is remarkably good.
Done around 350 motorway miles and it sits at 70mph in relative quiet with the cruise control on.
lt's just a bit small to be a serious contender. Missus loves it though!!
lt's what Land Rover should have done with the Defender, except larger of course. Has all the off road capabilities (no centre diff though, so it's only part time 4WD)
But more car-like to drive. Maybe the Grenadier will be the one to do it.
