The tailgate of my 2002 Freelander won't open - the problem seems to relate to the rear window not dropping down, as the window won't open from the console switch either - the window was working perfectly, with no juddering or whining, as you would expect if the regulator was about to die. I checked the fuses and they are fine, and the internal light can be seen to dim slightly when the door handle is operated (and when the window switch is operated). Any suggestions would be welcome, before I give in and force it open with a crowbar..............

P.S. Apologies if this question has been asked and answered previously - I'm a newbie and couldn't find it if it has.

disconnect the battery, this should make the window lower.
If its a 3-door take the roof off.

I suppose someone needs to ask.....so it may as well be me.
Did you disconnect the battery, or take the roof off? :)

Hi OldIrishWulf, it went up and down a few times, then went back to normal.

Coincidently, I'd been having a problem with the alarm in my Freelander - if you didn't turn the key in the ignition within a few seconds of opening the door, the alarm would go off, but disconnecting the battery has cured that too!
