anyone got a suggestion its driveing me mad

was it a new regulator or second hand if it is second hand then check the cables are ok my wife freelander has the same problem but I know what is up ,one of the cables the end has crumpled a bit and thus not pulling the cable enough. hope this helps

The cheap window regulator kits have too soft a spring. This helps in assembly but when you try to open the door the motor compresses the spring instead of pulling the window down.

I will only use the kits from the windowregshop on eBay now. I have used several different suppliers and found these to be the best.

twas indeed a second hand one but i saw it in action i stripped it of the car it worked fine could it be the micro switch in the handle would that display the same symptoms ????

my wife was original equipment just closely examine the ends where the coloured pieces are of hand I think they are green it only take a couple of mm to stop it working properly

yep a couple of mm is all that is stopping the fecking thing from opening once open i have to push the window down to close the tailgate when shut the window goes up as it should:mad2:

You could try physically locating the window lower in the clamps, may give you just enough clearance. Obviously recalibrate before and after.

Well it was worth a try, I used an aftermarket regulator recently and it's ok but does as you describe. Luckily I managed to drop the windows slightly and it works ok now. Maybe get a cable kit and have a go with better cables?

I must say that the freelander often comes up with niggles but in general they are easier to sort than the equivalent issues on the RR, keep the faith :)

an old thread, but the "non lowering tailgate glass strikes again"!!!
I purchased a brand new Window Regulator off eBay Buhama think the seller's shop was called.
If i press the handle to open the tail gate, the motor runs, but the window sticks.
Wen i have the door open and I play around with the door handle, I can lower the windows by hand by the amount the motor tries to lower it.
in short.... I too may have a soft spring at fault..... hopefully....
will play again tomorrow and post findings, unless someone else can offer their guidance.

Cheers all.

Have you greased the little rollers where the wire runs round. And put a bit of vaseline on the windows rubbers, then put it up and down a couple of times with the button on the dash.
Mike

Rollers and Sliders lubricated with Lithium (spray) Grease... I'm suspecting the springs to be too weak.

I got the window to come down... Apparently I missed fitting the photographed part....
but....
Now it seems that the windows goes up too far....
If the window is closed after calibration....
I open the door, the glass drops and the door can be opened..
but....... letting go of the handle.... when the window raises, it seems to go up an inch too far.
Additional queries - notes:-
--- I have to press the door handle for the window to drop before I can close it..
--- The Window drops but needs my hand to drop it another 3/4 inch before I can close it.
I have tried multiple re-sync methods... a) battery off after alarm disarmed - battery on after 10 secs - start the car - rev it to 1500+ for 10 secs, while revving, I open and close the window until it stays closed - usually straight away.... b) the remote fob pressing the button technique c) 5 secs off battery... Ign. to ON... close / open / close.
Everything is syncing properly, but no good..
I can press the tailgate handle to drop the glass. hold the glass from returning to the fully closed position and press the tailgate handle and the windows will drop even more..
with this in mind.... anyone any ideas what I can do to sort this...
Also... adjusting the bottom regulator bolts does NOT give me enough adjustment to get the glass to fit the top rail without me putting my and on the glass to push it in as the glass goes up.

Aaaaarrrrrrrrrggghhhh!!!!

Help!!!
