Hi all, P38 tailgate button not responding. rear doors/fuel access working okay so I don't think it's a fuse. Could be something I've done while locking/unlocking but I've been through the handbook and I don't think that's it so...

Where do I go from here?

Thanks in advance,

Geoff

Thanks for that... Presumably I use the hammer to beat the crap out of something/body until I feel better?

Climb into the boot and try to remove the door card, then you will be able to open it manually.

try unlocking the car with the key not the key fob the tailgate gets its signal from the drivers door lock and the switch maybe on the way out mine did this and it was part of a problem with the fuse box under the bonnet

Had this over christmas although only the lower section.
Can you hear the motor/soloniod trying to work when you press the button?

Hi guys,

My Thanks to gashead1974, Sandyt and Datatek. Climbed into the back, removed carpet panel and freed sticky lock. Done a quick lube, and all sorted so thanks for that.

Hopefully, I'll be able to return the favor sometime...

Does the button spring back out when released? Mines a bugger for sticking in every couple of months or so no matter how much 'lube' I give it. As stated above get access to the mechanism by removing the lower tailgate internal cover and is simple enough to sort out.

Oops, head up bottom moment, should have read that problem already solved....time for lie down in dark room!

And you didn't even get to use a hammer! Shame :( ;)

Forget the lube, take the button apart and you will probably find the button return spring has rusted through. £40 for a new switch assembly, 10p for a new spring if you can find one. I ended up making one:D
