Greetings and salutations.

My tailgate regulator cable has snapped.

Can someone steer me towards a friendly thread or post here describing the fix with a bike brake cable? I've searched and trawled but no luck.

I thought it would be straight forward but as I poked the cable about it went ping and I now have have dangly cable with frayed end hanging out of motor, white plastic thing, white plastic thing's friend with spring and black rubbery cable outer that looks like it goes towards the right hand pulley but it's come out.

Or is it easier to buy a kit of Eboing? I'd rather do it myself if poss.

The window is nearly closed now and is propped up with two bits of wood, that's proper rustic innit.

Thanks in advance.

Ebay kit best. Did mine took several attempts because I put the cable on as it came off instead of following the YouTube video....

yup I've watched a couple of videos now and I think doing it with new specific cables and new pulleys etc would make a much better job of it.

thanks for your input

Bought the complete regulator with motor off eBay for app £70, some of the broken plastic parts on the original did not come in the cheaper repair kits.

ello guys im new here but i sopose everyones new at some point!
can i pick youre brains about a freelander td4 on an 02 plate, its my m8s car but recently the f2 fuse for the engine ecu keeps blowing when the engine warms up and and engine cuts out cos the fuse has blown -

I've decided I'm going to try it with a bike gear cable (I have a spare one at home) and a solderless nipple. Will post back here with results.

TURBOTAZAME post your query here;

Land Rover Freelander - Land Rover Zone

You're more likely to get a response! This thread is about tailgate regulator cables, I haven't got a clue about the f2 fuse!

Try searching first.....simple etiquette !!

sorry! just getting used to this forum thing,
i have done a couple freelander rear tailgate regulators and window regulators before your much better of buying complete new unit of ebay the repair kits most of the time dont work as the plastic drive spindle in the moter gets eaten up by the metal wire and ther a t==t to fit - spend a bit more and just get a new one, put plenty of grease around when you refit

ok cool, cheers.

Took it all to bits yesterday ready to replace one cable and discovered that all three cables were shagged. Have bought the kit which comes with the motor wheel as the spindle looks fine.

fingers crossed

bought the 16 quid kit, followed the youtube video VERY carefully, put it all back in and I'm not sure if I got the tension right, the window went down, went up and then the cable popped out of the left hand window clamp and the big plastic bit on the motor with the spring broke.

f*ck*&g c*&t!

what have I done wrong?

also the window didn't want to stay up, motor kept putting it back down, any tips?

Did my tailgate window yesterday, and am sorting a [how to] on it using the eBay kit.

You can't get the tension wrong as long as you put the cable in the right place and wrap all of the spare around the wheel, the tension is regulated by the springs each side of the motor body.

ok cool. I'm thinking that when i put the motor and runners back in the tailgate (bit of a squeeze isn't it when it's all together) maybe I slightly dislodged the cable nipple out of the window clamp so when the motor pulled it it simply slipped out which in turn buggered everything else up. New cable set arrived will try again on Sunday :).

fingers crossed . . .

Tried again, same thing happened.

Cable popped out of clamp and p i n g snap goes the plastic clip with the spring again in exactly the same place.

I'm thinking that the poor old 15 year old clamps are just too coroded to happily hold the cable nipple in place.

so . . . I get a refund on both cable sets (they offered after I left negative feedback about the clip snapping in the same place twice) and now I'm trying out a new complete unit. Cost 80 quid, includes everything all ready set up and ready to bolt in.

Arrives Monday and I really hope this sorts it as the back of my truck is turning into a lake with all this rain and no propper seal round the back window!

My clamps on the tailgate regulator were so badly corroded that I just went for the complete unit from the word go. Only thing to remember is that you'll have to adjust the two side runners at the bottom or the window could either jam on the window rubber or leave a gap at the top.

My repair kit came with new cable chippy bits.... ( the sliders I mean) I will finish the guide I started and post it up soon.

There's a you tube video on how to repair all the different Freelander window regulators which I found useful.
