Hi to all, I have a 53 reg Range Rover L322 Vogue, 3.0 TD automatic, I brought it in may, with many faults, I have fixed all of the faults, apart from one. My "mlf" check enging light, never comes on, The only time it will come on, is if you have the key in position 2, and press the dash check button for over 5 seconds. I have tried a replacement instrument cluster, no luck, checked all fuses and wires, no faults found. Then a nice person told me, that with the Landrover T4 Diagnostic system, you can, deactivate & reactivate the check engine light. And I need my light reactivated for it's MoT in 2 weeks.
Could any one please help??

You can demonstrate the the check engine light works for the MOT which should be good enough. That's if the tester even notices.
There are other diagnostics that will do the job, it doesn't have to be T4.

Hi, I have tried Snap on, Autel and carsoft, no luck on any of them, and 4 MoT stations, all done a instant fail, due to the light not coming on, when the key is turned, But 3 out of the 4 never charged me, due to me fighting cancer and being in a wheelchair, and the same 3 put their diagnostic machines on my car for free

Faultmate or Nanocom if they cover your car, maybe RSW diagnostics. Have you checked the hidden menu's on the dash screen? Maybe possible to turn it on from there.

I will try anything. I do not know how to get to the "Hidden Menu" on the dash.
 
In the hidden menu there is an option to test all the lights and dials on the instrument binnacle....

Calling this up and running Test No.2 will activate the test function as per video below. it shows what lights should be on during ignition on and also the built in test - this is for the V8, but the Diesel should be similar.....



This way you can see if the lamp for the MIL is actually functioning - if it is but it doesn't come on with usual ignition process then investigation is required to see if the lamp is fecked, or some unscrupulous person has put a blank over the top to prevent it from being seen (masking a fault!) I have had this done to me before!

Here is the hidden menu process:

Ignition key must be “off”.

• Press and hold the Check Control button in the instrument cluster (RIGHT button), and turn the ignition key to the first position (KLR).


  • You will first see "Check Control OK", some seconds later you will see "Test Nr.01"
  • Push the left button on the instrument cluster to see the car's identification number. Add the 5 digits (not 6) together and write down that number, you will need it for unlocking all the functions. Example: A123457 will lead to 2+3+4+5+7 = 21
  • Push the right button until you see "Test Nr.19"
  • Push left button until you see the number that is equal to the one you calculated above
  • Push right button again
1. Display Car's identification number, HW/SW version, construction date
2. instrument cluster self test. Will light up all lights and run all guages
3. Current consumption (liters/hour)
4. Average consumption (liters/100 km)
5. Current range
6. Remaining fuel in tank. Three sets of numbers: A/B/C. C=total amount.
7. Engine RPM / Coolant Temp (C)
8. Current Speed (kph)
9. System voltage at Term. "R" (Battery Voltage)
10. Country/Language (UK, US, Spa, Ger, Jap, etc.)
11. Units am/pm
12. Average Speed
13. ETA
14. Date of Software Mask
15. Production Diagnosis
16. ""
17. Display Vehicle Specific Data
18. Alarm Changeover (cont. vs. intermittent OBC chime)
19. Lock/Unlock
20. Correction factor for fuel consumption (nicht ändern!)
21. Reset all defect codes

I have done the self bulb test and they are all working ok

So what can the problem be with no directional indicator, no high or low beam indictor on dash

If you've read my reply in your other thread you'll have seen that I have replaced mine twice. As well as the lights it also hold a backup of your mileage and if it's higher than your current one the instrument cluster will take the higher mileage unless you change the LCM mileage fairly quickly.
 
if i get another one how do i set it to my car ? seems stupid a light module has to know the mileage of the car, no point
 
It holds a backup of the mileage so if the instrument cluster is changed it can change it to the correct mileage. Makes it more difficult to clock the mileage as it will go to which ever is highest.
I used BMW scanner 1.4 but it was a bit of a pain in the arse. You could go to a main dealer and price up a new one.
 
would of thought it better to put it in the main engine ecu like the p38, i have access to a scanner thanks for your advise
