Why not? Why change the habit of a lifetime - yu will find that Hippoo owners are normally hyper-sensitive, paranoid and in a constant state of anxiety.

On the same subject, I'm surprised that no one has attempted to install a different manufacturers engine, say a 2 litre Zetec Ford or the 1.8 litre Honda engine that some Mini owners use. Amongst Series owners it is quite common to dump an old Landy engine and install either a turbo diesel or a V6 Ford and there are kits to suit. Has there really been no moves in this direction.

It's ok for series owners who have no electronics to worry about. The freelander is a bit more complicated with its coded/matched ECU and CCU, immobiliser, alarm etc. That's without the physical limitations of the transverse layout.

I do appreciate the problems involved but the fact that you can buy a brand new 2 litre Zetec engine with all ancillaries except ECU for £700 must make some bright people start to get their tape measures out to check the posibilities.

If you decide to do it, remember to post regularly & let us know how easy/difficult it is.
