I have a t-max 8500 winch on my 90. It has been reliable despite abuse from both me and the previous owner. It got very stiff and I assumed it was full of water so I decided to strip it down. I opened the motor to find it with a lot of fine sand and some water in it. The brushes were seized in the rusty cage. I got a replacement from Devon 4x4 for about £10.50 which seemed to fix the main problem. I then opened the gearbox and muddy water ran out. Not knowing how to strip it down the brake came apart as the central shaft was removed. I degreased it and found despite the water all the parts appeared OK. My problem is reassembling the brake. I have looked on line and can only find very poor exploded views which don’t give any detail of the brake. There is an outer part with a large spring which acts as the brake. There are two inner parts that operate that spring, these are similar except one has a hex hole down the middle which fits the shaft but the other has a round hole and if free to revolve. There is also a steel part which has the same hex hole which is but on the shaft is 30 degrees different from the previous part. This is no doubt difficult to understand if you are not familiar. Has anyone any information of ideally a picture of how to reassemble. I thought I had it right but when back on the vehicle it does not work as expected. Alternatively does anyone know of somewhere to get it serviced, I am in Bedfordshire.
