Hi, all any of you technology type, mechanical type people could explain some of the symptoms a high pressure fuel pump was on it's way to the holy land. The vehicle is a freelander 1 2002 td4. Its had a low pressure fuel pump quite recently. And new injectors new MAP and MAF sensor.
Here's hoping.

Is there a problem ? Or just changing bits?

They seldom fail to function, as they are pretty simple and robust. If they go wrong, they normally just leak diesel out the casing, or into the oil, at which point they need a rebuild.

i had one wear prematurely .. due to water-in-fuel.
driving symptom was, .. ask for power too quickly ..
the engine would go into a limp mode.
[ no dash light warning ] ..
fault code read: .. "P1190 Governor / fuel plausibility deviation at high speed"
.
the other symptom were .. long cranking times when starting with warm engine.
[ weren't so evident from a dead cold start ]
.

Well I've had three fail, and they went quite quickly. They started leaking fuel out of the pannels on the body of the pump, and within a few days were not able to supply enough fuel at the right pressure for the engine to run, leaving me stranded on each occasion. The jury is out on the cause but two of them failed whilst I had a RonBox on the vehicle.

On each occasion, the vehicle ran as normal for the few days, and then just stopped.
