hi i'm new to landrovers i own a 1993 disco and now i've got a problem with front swivle there is grease and oil all over the place at back of drivers side wheel, also the wheel has loads of play about half inch can this be fix with a seal kit or is it more serious?

Will packing it with grease sort this out

if the wheel has play then it sounds like bearings. if you need to do the swivel seals then you have to strip the bearings out anyway so makes sense to change um at the same time. dunno if you'll have um but check the needle roller bearings and make sure there still intact, 1 of mine had completely collapsed.

Impossible to properly diagnose what's wrong without pulling it to bits. Get a swivel refurb kit and a set of hub bearings and you've covered everything. Have a look at the swivel ball itself if it's pitted or damaged you'll need one of those aswell.

That sounds like next weeks job how hard is it to do?
Where's best place to get parts i'm from gainsborough or is it going to be ebay?

Thanks for the replies:bounce:

Not sure of their name but I've heard theres a land rover place in or near Rhodesia, Worksop. Otherwise have a good look on ebay. Prices vary quite a bit, even on cheap parts.

if you got a Haynes manuel its a piece of ****, if not then follow Busters 'how to' guide on here somewhere. you will need a 52mm box spanner, there about £7 but you need 1 to do pretty much everythin on the axles so get 1. i did swivel ball seals on both front sides and discs an pads, in about 6 hours on me own, an i was taking me time and giving everythin a proper clean. theres loadsa little tips to makin it easier, which i didnt learn till D71 helped me with mine, an ive forgotten pretty much all of them:doh: but if ya get stuck on anythin just ask - you cant be a proper landy owner till yav done swivel seals so most people on ere know them well

hi ive just found a place called a&p parts land rover specialists at santon s****horpe right next to corus which is handy for me cos i work they break land rovers and also service them as well as new parts he just started out on his own seems really nice done a couple of jobs for me done them really well

That's not far from me, i've not heard about him before. Where exactly is it? Is it close to the other scrap yards?

If you use the one shot stuff you get enough for both swivels. I think its a sachet per side.

yup 1 sachet per side. oh and turn the wheel to full lock before you start pouring the grease in, otherwise you'll spend an hour trying to force it in.
