DEF90 300tdi 1996 , My front diff oil is contaminated with i assume one shot grease , which im told is no big deal .
Now i want to check and top up the swivels , i have i believe the earlier hubs with fill + drain + level bungs . (is that correct on a 96 ?) . Anyway lets assume the seals have gone and the one shot has got to the oil , Do i need to check and topup the swivels . ? or are they topped up already with diff oil .
ta gerry.

That's the one . With the grease i guess getting into the diff oil , I assume that i will still need to topup/check the swivels .
When were the hubs changed to ones without a drain .

For the D1 around 1996MY when LR fitted the swivels filled with grease and had the black Teflon balls so no more plugs.

As mines an early 96 , so that sounds about right , mine are chrome and have the 3 ports . I wondered if the hubs had been changed for very early ones , and that i should of had the single fill only ones .

The level was very tight to get a spanner on , I wanted to remove the wheel lock stop bolt , but changed my mind as tight and felt like it would snap off , some serious heat required but i don't have O/A only mapp , let the garage have that headache .

Lock stop bolts have a locking nut behind them so you have to undo that first.

Hi dieseldog69 , your totally right as normal . Im ashamed to say that when i actually had a proper look i spotted the lock nut DOH , ever-likely it would not move . But in my defence my old 90 had the lock nut on the other side (not on the back) , and why i thought it was simply missing on this one . Maybe the old 90 had the lock nut fitted on the wrong side ?? .

I changed my level plugs for Chrome on brass BSP hex key plugs. Easy to remove.
Hi Flossie , is that because you can get a hex key in more easily , my problem was there was not enough clearance between it and the stop lock bolt .
