Hi all,

I've got quite a big a problem. Was doing the swivel pins, and as I was undoing the bolts on the bottom pin, one of the bolts snapped. I assume it's going to need drilling and then tapping, but this is way beyond my skill level.

Is there anyone near by to Chandlers Ford in Hampshire that can lend a hand?

Some history : it failed the MOT on excess play at the swivel, and since I was there I figured it was a good time to replace bearings and seals there too. The other thing it had an issue with on MOT was some welding on bulkhead, which is booked to be done next Saturday, so ideally I need to get this sorted before then, as I'm supposed to be driving to the welder :(

a nut welded on should shift it ,the worst bit is bottom pin doesnt ever need removing to rebuild swivel housing

what bit ?i never remove them they often shear, housing comes off ball with just removing top pin the bearing just pulls off bottom

do you have any other transport to take it any where, i know im a bit of a trek from you but home all day tomorrow and could weld a nut on it for you

No unfortunately not :( I've managed to get in touch with someone with a welder, who said he'll try but isn't too sure it'll work....we'll seee

simple Q.
surely there is little stress on those bolts? if the worst comes to the worst, put it back and drive it very carefully to get it dealt with.

It wouldn't be ideal I wouldnt think. Plus then I'd get oil all over everywhere again when I get whereever I'm going ;)

I'm hoping this guy tomorrow can weld the nut on, then I should be ok. I've managed to find another bolt the right size in my bolt box, so fingers crossed should be ok......famous last words

with massive thanks to steve24v, the stuck bolt was sorted this morning, and have not long got in the house again after spending all morning and most of the afternoon putting it back together. All in all, seems ok. I've filled it up with grease agian and will put the wheel back a little later.

Fingers crossed it'll keep the MOT man happy
