What is the preload and what is it for? (I've heard the term when looking into doing this before but never sure what its for

just to ensure theres no freeplay ,especially when under load, swivel housings with 2 taper bearings require very little 2-3 lbs ,rialko bush 12-14 ,

The preload is for the pressure set by shims on the railko bush. I attach the spring balance to the steering arm and pull, the arm should move at around 12/14 lbs. do it a few time to make sure you are getting a good reading/feel. Set up nicely it will steer well.

I bled the backs pretty easily by using a large syringe with a tube attached to push fluid back through slave bleed nipple..quite effective-you just have to remember to keep emptying master cylinder reservoir every so often :)

There is a bloke on here with a fender who had broken a britpart swivel ball, and believe it was the second one to go. The pics looked like he ran big off road tyres and wasn't scared of using em, but this could be just my interpretation. I wonder for more civilised use they maybe ok?

Interested to know myself as front axles next

just took delivery of Britpart ball kit from paddocks-I'll take some pics!!

oh, I'm also starting another thread on replacing swivels for a S3...with step by step pics :)
