Hi again,

I’ve read a lot about hub alignment and oil seal leaks and not touching the collet adjuster.
I’Ve also seen that a few hardy souls have made their own version of this £1000 tool on lathes.
Sadly I don’t have.a lathe but I do have a 3D printer and wondered whether I could print the part.

I don’t suppose anyone knows offhand what the measurements of the tool might be ? -in terms of the hub / driveshaft / internal axle diameters ?

If I can work these out I should be able to draught and print a tool to do the job -will be happy to share the STL files too :)

Wammers might have posted it somewhere, possibly in the Technical Section. I recall someone asking in the past. I think @EntropyUK did something with a bearing and a bit of drain-pipe to check it.

You need a decent press for the ball-joints, preferably the H shaped one rather than the C shape.

Thanks, I’ll check. I did see the home-made scaff tube and bearing thing which seems interesting -and I saw the pic of Wammers one.

I have a pretty heavy-duty C-shaped press but the ball joints look like the may be original to the car -eek
 
Well I’ve made some progress; I’ve found a 3D printer file for the oil seal locating tool (LRT-54-012)

have slightly modified this so that it can take a pvc pipe in the end. The plan then would be to print a disc the same diameter as the hub to check the alignment -although my printer is limited to 150 x 150 which may be too small.

for info, the oil seal inserter appears to have a diameter of 65.5 mm

The original ball joints came out on both mine using a C type press without great difficulty. The hard job was the ABS sensors. I used a bit of heat with a heat gun on the housing on one to just gently warm it and expand it.
 
Ah, well I replaced both front ABs sensors in the last year one was ok the other was totally stuck and had to be drilled out -the relictor ring was also in a bad way and ended up replacing the half shaft.

I’m ‘hoping’ that because everything has been off the car recently, (other than the pesky ball joints, track rod and drag link) that it will come apart reasonably ok with the application of plusgas and ‘industrial language’ in equal
