My MOT's out and doing a quick pre check I noticed both my swivel housing gaiters are split.
Are these an MOT failure?
Are the easy fit glue together ones any good?
Drop arm ball joint, best place to buy?

I'm new to owning and working on my defender and not yet got a favourite place to buy bit's, reasonably priced, good quality and a fast mail order.

Where do you order from and anyone know a parts specialist near to Alford Linc's.

Sorry for stupid questions but being new to area not really got any mates round here to ask.

I don't think gaiters are a fail, they're not standard items, as long as the swivel itself is OK & there's no leaks

Many thanks for replying, swivels are thankfully leak free and in good condition

A tester who dosnt know better they may think its like a CV joint boot , which if split is a fail

If its just a split you may be able to glue it
If not cut i off

some folk say they can hold moister in ,(which is no good) but i dont know ,Never had um
Ive allways fancied the heavy duty ones you have to strip down to fit

Cheers for the info and I'll cut off what's remaining as it'll look neater not being there, I had a series 3 20 years ago and from what I remember that never had gaiters and always went through MOT
