What sort of oil is in swivel ball housings.mines leaking and the oil seems to be very thin,I thought it would be quite a thick oil in it.is it really as simple as just putting grease in them to sort it,if the balls aren't knackerd

Just been under it And now noticed that there's oil leaking from the hub onto the disc.which seal is that will be leaking.the sooner the help the better so I can get 1 ordered as ts just run out of mot :(

have you checked the swivel for scores or abrasions that will cause the seal to leak aswell

Just a thought, but have you checked the wheel bearings? Sometimes the hub seals leak, making it look as though the swivels are leaking.

The chrome balls pit which scored the seals and causes the leak. Check for pitted swivels and replace. I just had mine done the kit is about £100 a side for good quality parts.

Mine leaked and i got rubbish seal as part of a swivel kit from dingocroft, this new seal leaked even more than the old one :wtf:

Im using 80w/90 oil in the swivel which is not THAT thick, i perservered with the oil even though i got hold of some of the grease as per prior post, but i never used it, and after about 3000 miles the new seal has virtually stopped leaking oil, so i guess it has probably worn in. It seemed a pretty hard rubber so maybe thats what was needed. It must have leaked over a ltre of oil out before getting worn in, but none ever got on the discs.

I had the hassle of draining/refilling the swivel with oil for each 6 monthly wof check to make sure it passed, but im happier running with oil in the swivels as at least i can check how much is in there.

I've just bought grease because it's only a slight weep.its just the oil leaking from the inside of axle dripping down the disc .im assuming that it's the inner hub seal
