I've heard back on the galvanised bulkheads-

Classic Bulkheads are now £850 for repair of existing and galv, plus delivery.
Mosside are flat rate £550 for repair and galv, plus delivery.

The Mosside units perfectly adequate (excellent even) and have a shorter lead time, only problem is they are in Ireland and I'm not. Postage will crank that price bit but maybe Shiply can help.

Footwells aside I think your bh is in pretty good nick, could you not just weld in new wells and get it galv'd locally?

I'd agree with that, a good dose of blast cleaning on the door posts to confirm, but I reckon with new footwells and some zinc, that should be good to go:)
 
Another member on here has just got some quotes - IIRC they were £550 for fixing and galvanising, and another quote on the same basis for £850....
 
I meant just for galvanising it not anything else, I have a quote for galvanising my chassis and it's only £250 + VAT so I would hope the bulk head would be cheaper!
 
I've not looked in to just galvanising, but from what I've read on here they do it by the Kg. Having picked up a chassis and a stripped bulkhead, the bulk head is much lighter! having someone repair and galv it does pass on any risk of it distorting; that was part of the appeal of someone else doing it.

Tbh, I wasnt ever considering galvanising the bulkhead until I saw the advertised prices. Nice to hear the my bulkhead is in good condition.
 
the biggest trouble i had with my bulk head was the bolts (i think there is meant to be 3 but mine only had 2) that bolt the lower dash to the bulk head they came out so far then just spin and not undo any further, are they meant to be captive nuts or is the bulk head threaded?
 
It wasn't long ago I stripped my dash/bulkhead but you've lost me I'm afraid. :confused:o_O
My dash had 2 bolts where the red arrows are pointing fixing it to the bulk head, i think there is meant to be three, they undid so far then wouldn't come out any further.

Ah, I think there were 3 on mine, which all came out ok. I cant remember how they were secured tho.
 
Thanks Blackburn, fingers crossed I can drill out the rest of the bolt (I had to get the mini grinder out) and remove the old riv-nut
 
So, I've been beavering away on this and made a bit more progress... I've had the flywheel ring gear replaced and the face machined whilst it was there, rear crank seal replaced and new clutch kit fitted. Engine and box back in. Getting the box mounts to realign was a bit of a faff on your own - a second pair of hand would have been nice, but the input shaft mated up to the flywheel nicely so cant complain.

Can anyone explain what this little bracket thing is? (Bottom picture) Sorry for poor photo, and the bracket being covered in crap... I think its something to do with the gearbox mounting? The little bar pocking out to the left at the top is threaded.

Camping this weekend so no progress for a week or so. The bulkhead is now with a local chap to have the new footwells put in, woooo

mm thats strange, looks like a bracket, it would be good if you take the pic of the part a bit further away so the image is a little clearer, im sure someone on here will know what it is, im trying to think of what it could be but i cant seem to picture what that item would go, id say it is bolted onto the side somewhere and the threaded rod would have something attached to it, mm maybe it may be a support for say the speedo cable ???

Great photos, it's a very original vehicle, apart from the curious looking exhaust. Why not keep the Capstan and refurb it?
 
Yes, apologies for the poor quality picture, I had mucky fingers at that point! :p I'll clean it up and have another go.

Exhaust - I'm not aware that it is other than standard? I'll have to have a closer look and get some pictures up. :eek:

Some, bit more done... Here's a better picture of the clean random bracket...

I started to have a look at the exhaust and hit a bit of a stumbling block. The exhaust originally came out the back on the passenger side, the new chassis has mounts for it to come out on the drivers side. I dunno if this is a mistake on the chassis builders, whether mine was some sort of custom job or whether there are options. Here you can see the back section is set for the passenger side...

In this one, you can see the bracket at the drivers side chassis rail, and the shape of the back section goes the wrong way. I've got an picture of the old chassis with the hanger on the passenger side. My question is, can I get a exhaust back section which is driver side exit?

In better news, I've had the bulkhead back from a local chap who's had it to weld in the new foot wells. I'm really impressed with the work that's been done, the work is very neat and it fits on the chassis better now than it did before! I've seam sealed the wells and given them a coat of red oxide. I'm thinking another coat of red oxide, then some chassis black for protection then some marine blue for finish?

AutoSparks wiring loom on order, so no reason not to be getting on with it now :)

Hi. I think your random bracket is part number 276511 which is the bracket for the flywheel plug. That's the plug in it (part number 3290). Put those part numbers in Craddocks website and see what you think. It certainly looks like those from the parts manual.
