As the car has sat for about a week without being used, the battery has flattened itself. It opened up on central locking (fob) fine but there's very little juice to open/close the Windows or indeed crank.

I have another battery that's in good condition that I'd like to swap in to close Windows and crank but I'm not sure on the best method of swapping them over without causing alarm issues and lockout issues etc.

So, step by step, what should I do to swap the batteries out?
 
Slacken battery earth. Switch on, switch off and then remove earth lead within 17 seconds.

That's mine anyway.

Make a note of trip 2 before you start this if it is of any interest.

Afterwards, you may have to reset sunroof and windows.

I'm thinking as it's almost dead right now (I can't get one of the windows back up) I should pop the bonnet, leave drivers door open. Disconnect battery (negative first). Get new battery in, positive first, then negative, and we should be all golden?

I presume as the alarm is already off (I haven't locked it since unlocking with the fob 45 minutes ago) then it shouldn't cause any problems with the EKA or the alarm.

Is that right?

So, drivers door open. Switch on, switch off. Disconnect battery. Driver door open during all of this.

New battery; drivers door open, connect positive, connect negative... then.. close drivers door? No need for EKA or anything?
 
I have never had any issues on any of my 4 P38's with the 17 second rule....never had to use the EKA, only thing is to resync the keys....

And yes, leave the door open...some have a tendancy to lock themselves when the battery gets reconnected!

17 second method is for cars with BBUS sounders Ant. :);)

Dunno about this driver's door thing but do not leave key in ignition once switched off!! Car is likely to lock. Doubt if you will lose EKA on a quick job like that.
