The best of the bunch imo. The TD4 has fewer problems than the 1.8 petrol K series engine and it's more refined than the older 2.0 L series diesel engines.
If you want a car that's suitable for the everyday drive, provides reasonable fuel economy, provides ample room and can handle mild to moderate off road conditions, then the Freelander isn't a bad choice. You just need to be aware of some of the most common faults. Many of the faults were ironed out or are at least thought to be less common in newer Freelander 1 models.
