Hi guys,
If anyone can give me any thoughts or ideas please do!
So theres a new vibrating noise that seems to come from under the gear stick or possibly the fuse panel that starting to bug me. I cant feel the vibration when a feel around and doesnt stop of i apply pressure to things that may have become loose.

The vibrating is only apparent when stationary with the cluch up and only when the brake is pressed down. The engine is running smooth and has its normal rattles and doesnt appear to be effected by this noise. Someone has mentioned transmission but im not convinced.

Defender 90 300tdi 1995.

Any ideas please let me know!

Thanks

If it goes away when you depress the clutch it is likely to be the release bearing. Unfortunately not worth the effort to split the box to replace if nothing else is wrong.

I think your probably right Dag! All investigations and research i have done today definately points to the release bearing. I've taken the gear stick gators off and used my trusty plastic pipe stethoscope and its deffo coming from down there. I shall be popping down to my usual landy mechanic now I have an idea of what i'm on about and get him to have a listen.
Thanks buddy, your knowledge is very much appreciated

My release bearing has been rattling since I changed my clutch, I broke the stupid plastic clip that stops the rattle. It doesn’t affect operation. I changed my clutch 4 years ago

It wont cause any problems if it is the release bearing rattling, it is just annoying. What is even more annoying is that the replacement parts is very cheap (bearing £8, clip £1) but to fit it you have to split the gearbox and engine which is a full days hard graft if you do it yourself (I have just had my gearbox reconditioned and it took me two evenings to remove and two evenings to refit) or a very expensive garage bill if you take it somewhere for them to do. I learnt to live with the rattle similar to @flat.

I can stop mine rattling at idle by coming off the clutch very very slowly.

I was so annoyed with myself at the time but no way am I splitting the box and engine just to sort that!!!
