£1000 for a 97 defender ? stolen and recovered or not, sounds dodgy to me unless they could provide documents to prove it.

seems fair to me. Id have it.

Up in Thurso my neight offered me his td5 110 for £1500 (with v5 btw)

I think this hi cap would be ideal to buy as the basis for a toy.

I thought there wasn't much of an issue with putting a CAT D car back on the road though ?

Cat D isnt an issue and doesnt require a vic check.
I didnt see where he said it was a cat D though.

He didn't specify it was cat D, but said it had been stolen and recovered, which is normally cat D I think?

It's only Cat D if it is Stolen Recovered and written off. When our Defender was stolen the insurance company repaired and returned it. There was no cat D on it.

Ah ok, well still raises the question as to why it's not on the road then?
