Hi Foks, so we have just bought a D1, and at 109K miles, the suspension is tired, and I would like some advice on how to freshen it up.

My principal aim will be comfort, but without going super soft..

I am currently thinking new standard height springs right round, new gas shocks, and a (full) blue polybush kit.. with associated parts as necessary.
( the current rear anti roll bar is :censored:, so it can just go in the bin - a new one is £40 )

Given the above, Which springs and shocks would folk recommend please ?

I have seen very conflicting opinions on bushes - so any advice in this area would be appreciated too.

Thanks

If your after comfort dont use poly bushes... go for genuine rubber ones much better for just road use pollys are great off road tho..

Thanks for the advice. I'm confused though - easily done (!). I have a pal with a D1 200 with red poly's all round - and its really nice! and they have been in it 10 years - and he tows a decent size tin tent...

Were poly bushes good in that time period and are :censored: now, or ???

What's wrong with your springs, is the vehicle lob sided? Gas dampers on their own will firm up the suspension.

Its actually very square to the road, but they are very rusty - its only surface, but by the time I have cleaned them up, I figure it will be cheaper and easier to fit new - currently thinking new OEM spec.

Definitely agree with the gas shocks - did that to a sports car, years ago when I was young (!!), and decent ones don't seem too expensive...

The problem with poly bushes is theres different manufacturers and then different hardness's. ive used them on many different vehicles in various different applications. your best really doing your research and seek advise only from people using them in the same way as you intend to.
It does make sense to replace your springs, i suspect theyre proberbly the originals and for what they cost its peace of mind.
