It's not that bad. The lest time I whant Peak District the PAS box lost all its fluid. It's just little bits now and then. I done all the modifications I want to do so it's time for a new project.
A transfer box swap only alters high range. They all have the same low range. If you are happy with the crawl speed with 33’s and just want it more peppy on the road. The the transfer box is the easiest and cheapest swap. Thanks 300bhp/ton
So do I just need to put in eBay Defender 1.4:1 transfer box to get my gearing back. Or do I need the the diff as well. I'm ok with low range on my D1 with 33" tyres.
Thanks
Keeping the stock transfer box and going for 4.1:1 diffs will give similar result in high range and on road. But also improve your crawl speed in low range. The only thing to consider here is. Stock diffs are pretty weak. So if you are planning on upgrading them. It might only cost a fraction more to change the ratio.
Something else to consider. I’d rather go for flexy suspension rather than total height. And an addition of ATB or locking diffs in the axles will massively elevate the vehicles off road potential. With the TCS the D2 has I’d go ATB rather than full locker unless rock crawling was the main hobby. The ATB’s will compliment the TCS and you’ll end up with much better steering control on slippery surfaces and very similar levels of traction to full lockers.

Lots of Defender boys always are after the 1.2 Disco transfer box anyway.
With 33’s it isn’t 100% necessary to change the gearing but the stock Disco 1.2:1 transfer box does mean super tall gearing with 33’s. Ie 5th gear won’t really be usable until about 50mph.

Pretty sure @bankz5152 had some issues with TF shocks
