Evening gents, I wonder if anybody can shed some light on this for me. Disco 2 std air suspension, on a day to day basis if I open the tailgate there is no problem, if how ever I open the tailgate and leave it open( whilst load for tip trip etc) after 5 mins the rear suspension collapses, whilst it will pressure itself if I press the suspension up button it is really annoying, last week the open tailgate door nearly let itself down onto my son's MGBGT which would have done neither vehicle any favours. If the engine is running the problem doesn't occur. Any thoughts

Not certain, but I suspect that is an intentional feature. The designer may assume that if you turn the engine off, and leave the tailgate open, you will be loading stuff, so the vehicle will lower to help.

That's not normal. Never happened to mine. It's as if the exhaust valve is letting the suspension down. Thinking outside the box- could it be possible you have an air bag leak that is showing up when you have the extra leverage/weight of the door open? May also be the RHS need replacing.

Never happened on mine either, but it had coil springs! :D

You could be right, but I don't understand why it doesn't happen with the door shut?
The door is pretty heavy, and the COG of the door only a couple of feet further back with it open.

Mine doesn't have air suspension but I had read somewhere that SLABS has an "unload" function that automatically lowers the rear when a door is opened while the vehicle is stationary. Probably it's a programmable feature that you can change with Nanocom.

Mine has air and doesn’t do that. I don’t think this would be a safe function as there is a potential for something to get trapped under the open door. I think it’s a fault somewhere. The open rear door is a heavy thing given its size and weight, plus the spare wheel !!!

Mine does something similar, but only about 5mm. After stopping the car and open any doors later it goes down a bit (just tried).
I have found this in the description of SLS system:
